We are honoured to have the following Guest Speakers to share their valuable information on Peace, Mental Health and Prevention of Family Abuse on a global platform

Gordon McInally, RI Past President 2023-24: In his year as President said: "The goal is to restore hope — to help the world heal from destructive conflicts and, in turn, to help us achieve lasting change for ourselves."   Gordon believes Rotary members should offer hope to those affected by mental health challenges. He has cited the correlation between mental health and family violence. As a result of the COVID pandemic, more people around the world are facing mental health issues.

Grace Van Zyl, Chair Rotary Action Group for Peace highlights the power of Peace Education to:

  • Promote Conflict Resolution
  • Build Tolerance and Understanding
  • Develop Emotional Intelligence
  • End/Prevent Violence and War
  • Promote Social Justice
  • Support Sustainable Development
  • Cultivate Global Citizenship
  • Improve Mental Health and Well-Being

Professor Kate Fitz-Gibbon, Topic: 'Never taking progress for granted: the global crisis of violence against women'.

Kate Fitz-Gibbon is a Professor (Practice) with the Faculty of Business and Economics (Monash University) and an Honorary Professorial Fellow with the Melbourne Law School (University of Melbourne). In 2024 Kate founded Sequre Consulting, which is committed to advancing safety and equality.

Kate is an international research leader in violence against women and children, perpetrator interventions, and the impacts of policy and practice reform. Kate has advised on homicide law reform and family violence reviews in Australia and internationally.

Her research has been cited by the High Court of Australia. In 2021 Kate was appointed Chair of Respect Victoria by the Victorian Government. In 2024, Kate was selected as part of the World Economic Forum’s Young Global Leaders 2024 Class.

Oscar Lumire, Charter president of the Rotary Club of Kericho, in Kenya. Currently we are building and renovating toilets in public primary schools in Kericho County in a bid to promote good hygiene and prevention of diseases. We are seeking more partners to ensure we achieve our target of reaching 10 schools in rural areas by end of this Rotary year.

Being part of SAFE Families - Building a Culture of Peace led by Dorothy, I have shared the guidebook on the Prevention of Domestic Violence to an organisation protecting women and children from abusive marriages to help them in implementation of their programs. The program, is a game changer in the slums as a few families have already been reunited for a better course thanks to Dorothy and her team in Australia.

Please register and join us online to hear from these inspirational leaders in Peace, Mental Health and Prevention of Family Abuse.

REMEMBER: ABUSE PREVENTION BEGINS WITH YOU AND ME!
