EAST AFRICAN WOMEN'S FOUNDATION WORKSHOP

presented by Dorothy Gilmour
As part of our Inclusive Communities Initiative, I had the privilege of presenting a Workshop for Prevention of Family Violence to the beautiful women at the East African Women's Foundation, Braybrook. With Peter Berg, and Ahmed Tohow, both from Rotary Melbourne, who introduced us to East African Women's Foundation we met with the most inspirational Somalian Australian Fartun Farah who is the momentum behind this amazing supportive agency for African women.
There were 40 Somalian Australians who with the assistance of Fartun with translation and the distribution of our Guide for Prevention of Family Abuse in Australia both in English and Somali language, were eager to learn about our Australian models and law of prevention of abuse.
The focus on children and the lifetime traumatic impact of seeing abuse or being abused, was the highlight and many questions were asked.
Have you any diverse communities in your neighbourhood. Please reach out to them. Introduce our Rotary Inclusive Communities Initiative so you may help them and their families to understand Australia culture and laws around family violence and its being a crime here.  Maybe some new members for your Club?
