"Towards Respectful Relationships" provides the platform for kids talking to kids about Family Violence and the need for respectful, healthy family relationships.
The Film Project is a challenge for groups of 3 to 4 students in Year 10 to make a short film for an audience of their peers. The program is run as an elective subject or part of Year 10's Personal Development subject over a single school term - 8 weekly sessions of 2½ hours.
Rotarians fund and facilitate the project with support from a film maker and Police DV person and engage in student conversations to help students to explore and develop potential ideas in greater depth.
A Film Maker is employed to mentor and support students in groups, guiding them on developing and pitching film ideas through to a completed work.
Local Police who are specialists in Domestic Violence engage with students providing an interactive opportunity
to learn through anecdotal experiences of front-line workers.
The Outcome is for each group to produce a 3-5minute film which competes for two Awards plus Prize Money funded by supporting Rotary Clubs.
Students responses include: "When we began the project, I thought domestic violence was an unsolvable issue. Now I believe it can be fixed."
Volunteer Mentors have said: "Being a survivor of domestic violence myself, I really want to honour the students for their bravery in exploring and re-imagining the DV narrative in such uniquely creative ways."
"Towards Respectful Relationships"
Domestic Violence - it doesn't knock,
It doesn't ask permission
Let your courage be the ripple that changes the tide
Fear of sharks normal right?
But fear of men - it's just not right
Domestic Violence kills more women than sharks
Remember red flags ... Could look like love hearts!
